Indications for papaverine
Papaverine is used to control coronary, peripheral, and cerebrovascular disorders.
Papaverine is also used as an antispasmodic for gastrointestinal disorders and cough.
It is used to diagnose and treat erectile dysfunction by injecting Cavernosum Corpus into the penis.
Mechanism of action of papaverine
Papaverine is one of the opium alkaloids, although it has no chemical or pharmacological similarities to other opium alkaloids. It has direct relaxing effects on smooth muscle, in part due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme phosphodiesterase.
Pharmacokinetics of papaverine
Papaverine is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine.

Some of the drug is distributed into the systemic circulation after intracavernosal injection
